Hi. I’m Justin Picken and I’m the author of this blog.

I started this blog as a journal of my path on the road to discovery in the area of internet marketing.

As I learn more and use more of what I have learned, I will share my insights, my successes and failures, and my progress in the hope that some of what I have learned and benefited from will help others who are on the same path.

Childhood Dream

I grew up in a Midwestern city, but I knew I was home the first time I came to the mountains of Colorado. I was only eleven years old, but I knew I belonged. I even told my mom and dad I would be a ski instructor someday.

Years later, after college and after bouncing around for a few years after that, I returned to Colorado and I did become a ski instructor.

Perfect, right? Boy achieves childhood dream and lives happily ever after. The end.

Do What You Love To Do

The truth is I love teaching and I love skiing, and I love teaching skiing. Problem is I will never be financially free on a ski instructor’s paycheck.

Even though I’ve now been teaching for 23 years and I’m at the top of my profession, even training others for the Rocky Mountain region, I still only work when there’s snow and that’s only six or seven months out of each year. So, like every other ski professional I know, I’ve found other things to do, to take up the slack.

I’ve been a construction worker, waiter, carpenter, landscape foreman, bus driver, raft guide, yoga instructor, personal trainer and a magazine proofreader. None of these were ever more than an extra paycheck, a way to make ends meet, with no passion behind them or any rewards other than financial.

I now have a health practice, teaching people to create new neural pathways and then to use them to improve their lives. It’s very fulfilling for me. People find relief from pain, they heal from injuries faster, and they improve their performance in various sports. I help older people feel, look and act younger again and I work with children with special needs to find a higher potential than may have been thought possible for them.

Even this, as rewarding as it is, is not a path to financial freedom.

I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur, to work for myself, develop my own products, set my own hours and pay myself what I know I’m worth. With my practice I have some of that, but not all of it. I do set my own hours and I own my practice. I’ve even started to create some of my own products. But the expenses and my budget have never allowed me to pay myself what I know I am worth. I can only ask clients for so much in return for the service I provide and I can only work a limited number of hours in a day.

So, I branched into network marketing.

Finally! I thought I’d found the answer – own a business, low (or no) overhead, and the chance for residual income.

I worked diligently for seven years. I did everything asked of me. I learned and soaked up information like a sponge. I trained my team and supported them and was there for three-way calls and home meetings and conference calls. I enjoyed helping people solve their financial problems or helping them find a solution for a health issue. I was having fun. I was helping people.

Why was it so difficult? Why didn’t everyone do what I did? Where was their success?

The answers to some of those questions have led me to this blog.

Generous Spirit

One thing I have always loved about network marketing is the people I have met in this industry. Most that I have met are generous with their knowledge and giving of their time and energy.  I’ve always had a sense of cooperation and guidance along with a genuine interest and desire for everyone to succeed.

It’s no different here on the internet. In fact, I feel it is magnified by the true abundance and sheer size and population here. There is an attitude of sharing, guiding and mentoring here that is unlike anything else I’ve found.

It’s in that spirit that I hope to be able to give back to those who can benefit from my experience and my knowledge, in the same way that I have benefited and continue to learn and grow due to the generosity that is shown me by those in this community.

Please leave your comments and ask questions while you are here. I will do my best to answer or to find answers where I can.

Thank you for visiting and learning about my journey.

Best of life!

Justin
